Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition in which the cartilage, the natural cushioning between the joint wears away.

The main causes of knee OA are increasing age, high BMI, repetitive stress, previous trauma, playing certain sports and genetics.

Common symptoms include:

  • Pain with activity
  • Tenderness
  • Stiffness and inflammation

Treatment options can vary from conservative management, such as physiotherapy or remedial massage, to a total joint replacement.

Physiotherapy intervention offers a less invasive and “safer” alternative to surgery. Treatment will generally involve education, soft tissue work and exercise aiming at overcoming your limitations.
