Tech Neck

Tech neck is everywhere – on trains, at sporting events, in waiting rooms and even at home.

Tech neck refers to the strain placed upon postural neck muscles whilst looking at our phones, tablets and computer screens. Resulting in pain, stiffness, headaches, spasms and in some cases pins and needles into the arms.

Research has found people can spend up to 5 hours a day on their phone, this is time spent outside of time working at their desks on computers!

Our head weights approximately 5kg which places significant load upon the postural muscles. For example when our head is tilted at 45 degrees we are placing 22kg of load through these muscles!! It’s not surprising to find these muscles become quickly fatigued and overworked given the load they are put through daily.

The team at Ormond Physiotherapy can help you relieve any neck or shoulder symptoms you may experience. Your experienced Ormond therapist can help identify environmental (work/home) causes and advise you on how to correctly set up your desk.

Additionally an individually tailored home exercise program will focus on a balance between postural awareness, mobility work and postural strengthening exercises.
