The days are starting to get a shorter and nights a bit cooler. Cricket is winding up and it’s sadly time to put away the beach gear for another year!
All this must mean that the AFL is back!!
Yet another season of AFL has rolled around and is upon us. This does however mean we start seeing more injuries at Ormond Physiotherapy.
One of the more common injuries that happens in footy, is that of the humble hamstring strain.
Why a hamstring may strain is still a mystery, to even the experts, but some common causes include:
- Tightness of the muscle
- Weakness of the muscle group and surrounding soft tissue
- Inadequate warm up routine
- Muscle fatigue
- Lower back tightness and neural tightness
- An altered or asymmetrical gait or running style
- Or it could be that you are just getting too old! 🙈
Whatever the reason, at Ormond Physiotherapy we can assess all your lower limb muscles in terms of tightness, strength and mobility and develop a tailored exercise program to try and avoid the dreaded hamstring strain.
Prevention is far better than the strain actually occurring, so get yourself moving and come in for a thorough biomechanical assessment by an experienced physiotherapist at Ormond Physiotherapy. A program of Pilates or specific physiotherapy exercise may be all that is needed to prevent a “hammy” occurring.
