Injury Prevention

Wanting to get into a new sport this year?
Currently in preseason?
Want to play with confidence and control?
Are you continuously getting injured or carrying niggles and not sure why?

First of all, lets cover how we get injured – How do we go from playing outside pain free to be hobbling around?

When we strain a muscle, it typically occurs when your muscle is overstretched. This usually occurs as a result of fatigue, overuse, or improper use of a muscle. We are susceptible to strains all over the body depending on a number of things including; body configuration, the environment you are in, and the activity you are participating in.

There are several predisposing factors that leave people more susceptible to acute injury. Some factors include, but are not limited to:

  • Poor movement patterns
  • Muscle weakness
  • Muscle imbalance
  • Muscle and/or joint tightness

Injury prevention has become a lot more integrated into the sports community over the last ten years. Several sports are beginning to implement strategies at a grass roots level. This is to not only ensure that our bodies are well prepared for the activities we participate in, but begin the educational process early. A couple of examples include the FIFA 11+ program in Soccer,  and the KNEE Program in Netball. These programs are tailored to their respective sport, with the common injuries faced while completing common movements in mind.

Here at Ormond Physiotherapy we provide an in depth approach to soft tissue injuries and management for ongoing participation within sport. We can offer a thorough assessment, screening for markers of potential injury, then tailor an individualised program to suit you, so that you can spend time worrying about playing the best for the longest.

Come in today and have an assessment with one of Ormond Physiotherapy’s experienced therapists and be your best for sport.
